2015 in Metal

"No one can deny that 2015 was a lottery winner for new releases. With bands like Blind Guardian, Ensiferum, Nightwish, Apocalyptica, Kamelot, Helloween, Disturbed, Soilwork, Steven Wilson, Amorphis, Leaves’ Eyes, Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom, and so many more, there was bound to be some fantastic material in there. What was more surprising is that so many of those bands put out absolutely fantastic albums. Truly, 2015 was a goldmine, and picking the winners for this year was no easy task!"

RASKASTA JOULUA - Espoo Mreto Areena, Espoo 2015

"There’s nothing that says “Merry Christmas” more than seeing a bunch of heavy metal singers on stage singing Christmas carols, right? The Raskasta Joulua-tour (Heavy Christmas) has reached an admirable age with this being their 11th year of touring alongside six albums. Essi attended the main concert at the Espoo Metro Areena in Espoo on December 18th, 2015, to get into the spirit of Christmas."

CHILDREN OF BODOM - Paviljonki, Jyväskylä 2015

"After touring around Asia and Europe for two and a half months, Children of Bodom finally brought their I Worship Chaos World Tour back to their home base, playing five shows for the domestic Hate Crew. Musicalypse went to Jyväskylä's Paviljonki on December 11th, 2015, to see if the band was still able to stir up chaos even with a lengthy tour behind them."

MOKOMA - Klubi, Tampere 2015

"December is a traditionally busy season for Christmas office parties. One of Finland’s metal sweethearts, Mokoma, decided to arrange a special Christmas party of their own with five gigs around the country. The band’s newest album, Elävien Kirjoihin, published last February, was warmly received by their fans, thus it was no surprise that when arriving to Klubi in Tampere on December 5th, 2015, the first thing to be seen outside the venue was a sign stating that the show was sold out."

ELUVEITIE w/SKÁLMÖLD & ITHILIEN - Nosturi, Helsinki 2015

It has been entirely too long since Eluveitie has played a club show in Finland. Though the occasional festival has brought them back to the Nordics, their long tour for Origins had yet to carry them to Finland, until now! They hit up Nosturi in Helsinki on December 3^rd, 2015, and since it’s been ages, we were sure to be there!
